****Harder Game**

** **

**Learn
To Add**

**This
game is a visual game for children who can recognise **

**most
numbers but can't add them yet.**

**It
shows them how to draw**

**their
way to the**

**answer.**

** **

** **

** **

** **

** **

** **

Easy game means adding numbers below 10 e.g. 5 + 3 = 8

Harder game the sums go above 10: e.g. 8 + 7 = 15

*Until children know all
the additions below 10*

*they should begin by
playing the Easy Game.*

The "Harder Game" adds numbers up to a total answer below 20.

We'll start with the Easy Game.

Click "Easy Game"

The game begins.

A sum is given.

Our task is to add 6 + 2 in this case...

** **

Use the mouse.

Left-click one of the numbers being added inside the circle.

In this case we clicked the 6.

It turns red.

Now click the other number inside the circle.

That's the 2 in this case.

It turned red as well, and a line appeared joining the two.

A butterfly appears and flies from the 6 to the 2

to draw attention to the path.

Click another number in the circle.

We picked the 7.

It turned red.

We must click the number next to 2

which will make the ** straight parallel line**
shown in the drawing.

We always pick number pairs to create

*straight parallel
lines.*

That's the 1 for now.

What happens if we get it wrong?

Let's click the 3 instead:

Instead of the number turning red and a butterfly flying in a line

we get a bird flapping its wings

pointing to the 1.

*Whenever you make a
mistake *

*a bird will point to
the correct choice.*

The 1 is what we should have clicked next.

Let's click the 1 now...

...and we get the desired butterfly.

The next two numbers to click on are the 8 and the 0.

They form the next line:

That's the 8...

And that's the 0.

When we reach the top

*At zero*

*The sum is always
complete.*

The butterfly flies to the answer

which appears in the rectangle.

6 + 2 = 8

also

7 + 1 = 8

8 + 0 = 8

Click the green "AGAIN" for another sum.

Click the red "Bye bye" to exit the game.

What happens if we get it wrong?

In the example below the next step should be to click the 1

But we clicked a different number.

Instead of the number turning red and a butterfly flying in a line

we get a bird flapping its wings

pointing to where we should have clicked.

The 1.

*Whenever you make a
mistake *

*a bird will point to
the correct choice.*

You can then correct the error by clicking the correct answer.

**Above
20**

Click on "Harder Game Below 20"

This game is for children who can add up to 10 already

but don't yet know all the additions over 10.

For example they know 6 + 2 = 8 but don't know 6 + 8 = 14

*Children who don't
know all the *

*additions below 10
should stay with*

*the Easy Game until
they do. *

*Then play this
version.*

The sum is 6 + 8

There are TWO choices.

Each number has TWO choices.

But the endings are the same.

For example 5 and 15, or 6 and 16

Proceed exactly as before.

Click the 6 and the 8

Then the 9 and the 5

Finally the 0 and the 4

GUESS TIME

Does 6 + 8 come to 14 or 4?

Notice 4 is ** smaller** than
both the 6 and the 8!

Oops!

We guessed 6 + 8 = 4 by mistake!

The bird appears to help us correct our error.

It points to the correct answer, the 14.

Let's click the correct answer now...

A beautiful bird appears

saying YAY!

We got the right answer!

6 + 8 = 14

Click "Again" for another sum just like it, or

Click "Bye bye" to exit the game.
